Cottanera

After tasting a couple of brilliant wines from the slopes of Etna I decided to do some research and find a producer who would suit our existing portfolio. Questioning winemakers on who they thought were rising stars, their unanimous response was Cottanera Vineyard.

Owned by the Cambria family, the Cottanera Vineyards are planted on the southern slopes of Etna at a altitude of 700 metres. The unique lava-rich soil has given life to the native varieties of Nerello, Mascalese, Cappuccio, Nero d”avola and Inzolia. We are truly excited by the Nerello Mascalese based reds and have shipped three different wines which deliver great character and value; The entry level Barbazzale bianco is 100% Inzolia from young wines that shows ripe round fruit with gentle crisp acidity. The Barbazzlae Rosso is mostly Nerello Mascalese with small amount of other local varieties. It shows almost Pinot Noir like aromatics with a juicy textured palate.

The Fatagione is from older vines with lower yields and shows deeper more concentrated flavours. The Etna Rosso is the flag-bearer for the estate is the essence of Etna. Aromatic, deep and brambly with beautiful flow and texture. These are very exciting wines from one of Italy’s most exciting producers.
