Hilberg - Pasquero
Make no doubt about it, the Nebbiolos and Barberas from Annette Hilberg & Michele Pasquero are amongst the best wines of their type in Piemonte. The wines don’t come from one the better recognised villages of Piemonte like La Morra or Neive, but the beautiful little hamlet of Priocca , which is located about 15km north-west of Barbaresco.
The vineyards are beautifully located, organically cultivated, has incredibly miserly low yields and the approach in the winery is strictly non-interventionalist with no fining or filtering maintaining the wines integrity. The result is wines that are generously flavoured yet beautifully balanced with great flow and show typical Piemonte character.
To the wines. The Vareji is a blend of Brachetto & Barbera that was made for only family and friends. This is a juicy, joyous fun wine with the Barbera tempering the Brachetto’s over the top character. The Barbera d’Alba is produced from younger vines on the property and is designed to be drunk earlier than the Superiore selection. This is a great value for money wine that punches well above its price point.
The Barbera d’Alba Superiore is an incredibly satisfying wine that delivers all the density and mouthfilling character that only Barbera can achieve.
The Nebbiolo d’Alba Superiore has a lot in common with the great single vineyard wines of Barbaresco. The wine has the archetypical Nebbiolo structure but has a much softer, more creamy textured core of fruit to balance the chalky abundant tannins.
The wine is incredibly long and fine on the finish which lasts for minutes. These wines grace the pages of all the great Enoteche of Italy and we are very excited to ship these wines for the first time to Australia.
